Heinz Schachtner (born 14 January 1920 in Eichendorf ; died 21 February 2014 )  was a German trumpeter , composer and writer who was an accomplished soloist. Between 1935 and 1940 he went through a course of study at Trapp'schen Conservatory in Munich, His first appearances were in coffee houses of the Bavarian capital. In 1954 he recorded his version of the theme song of the film "From Here to Eternity" a Top 10 hit, for which he was awarded the first European soloist with the "Golden Trumpet". He also recorded such varied tunes as the "Midnight Blues", "Il Silenzio" and "Lara's Theme" from "Dr. Zhivago". Until the 1980s Schachtner was a member of various ensembles in Cologne. Among others he performed with Adalbert Luczkowski and Werner Muller and was a member of the WDR Big Band. In addition, he was much in demand as a studio musician.
His final resting place is at the Deutzer Friedhof in Cologne-Poll.
